The History of the Second Saturday Wake County Divorce Workshop

The Second Saturday Wake County divorce workshop is not just local to Raleigh, NC. Second Saturday was founded in San Diego, Calif. in 1986 by Ginita Wall and Candace Bahr. The pair started the organization because they realized that women are at a disadvantage financially after going through a divorce.

Candace and Ginita first began an organization called WIFE, with the mission to help women learn about their finances. As they said, “A man is not a financial plan. WIFE.org was created to empower you to make the best possible decisions that will help you create exactly the life you want, on your own terms.”

During their experiences with WIFE, Ginita and Candace found many women who needed to learn about finances due to divorce. Divorce comes with its own challenges and education and they wanted to create a safe, educational environment. Thus the Second Saturday workshop. These workshops covered emotional, legal, and financial aspects of separation and divorce. As these workshops grew and become more successful, the co-founders decided to expand nationwide.

Ginita and Candace contacted Robert Watral in Raleigh. He became the facilitator of Second Saturday Wake County divorce workshop, organizing the first seminar in Raleigh in October 2014. Watral is proud to continue the workshops each month, working with several volunteers in the Raleigh area.

Second Saturday has grown rapidly in the past couple of years; there are now Second Saturday divorce workshops in 31 states in the United States! It has even led to the creation of a Divorce Workshop for Men and a workshop for Parenting After Divorce. If you or someone you know is going through the divorce process and is seeking advice, please attend one of our upcoming workshops.
